With Heikedine Günther’s deep artistic exploration of micro- and macrocosms she reveals the interconnectivity of the smallest and greatest. The series Shapes and Spaces focuses on persistent shapes and timeless space.
Each work consists of a front and a back page. The shapes dominate the front, showing images which originate from Günther’s broad knowledge of astrophysics and her large collection of images from numerous cultures throughout the history of mankind. The symbols which continue to facinate people from all over the world regardless of the era, create the shapes. The subtle structures which surround us are made visible in the filigree drawings – a reminder of the complexity of our world that cannot be unveiled, since nothing is as it appears to be.
This concept reproduces when beholding the artwork’s back. Spaces of color open up like windows to a metaphysical world. Reminiscent to the color field paintings of Mark Rothko, the spaces invite to lose oneself in their depth and endless gradients. The back oozes of contemplative color ginving them a splendid quality which almost outshines the carefully drawn shapes of the front.
